The crunching of the snow filled the cold silent night. Cold short breaths escaped Lea's lips; she clutched the books desperately to her chest. Her school robe long gone in her rush out of the castle.
She shot a glance over her shoulder at the castle windows; any teacher could easily catch her now.
10 more steps until she could reach the safety of the forest.
Eight.
Five.
Two.
Safe!
Her body shivered as she flattened her back against a tree trunk, listening for any suspicious sounds. Nothing, nothing except for the soft drumming of her racing heart.
"Well, well, what do we have here?"
In her shock, Lea jumped sideways way from the voice. Tumbled over her own feet, dropped the books, and landed on the soft snow with a Fwump.
A soft chuckle filled the silence until it increased to muffled laughter.
Lea recognized the laughter and looked up at her so-called attacker. He was covering his mouth with his hand as his body trembled with laughter, his red hair resembling fire in the moonlight.
Her eyes looked straight into his eyes, blue and green fighting in the iris. Green was winning.
Lea let out a sigh of relief. It was only Fred.
"Fred, you scared me!" she hissed out quietly.
His chuckled subsided as he answered.
"Oops, sorry. Also I'm George not Fred" he grinned widely.
Lea chuckled and rolled her eyes whilst she got up and dusted herself from the snow.
"First of all, I know that sorry isn't sincere. And second of all, you can't fool me with that prank Fred."
She finished dusting herself off and gave Fred a rivalling grin.
"Heh! You got me there. I've always wondered how you could tell the difference."
Leas grin widened, with Fred green won every battle over the irises, with George however it was blue.
"Now that is my little secret."
Fred chuckled as she bent over to recollect her books from the ground.
"I'm curious, what are you doing out here in the middle of the night?"
He asked as he kneeled down to take her books and place them in his bag.
"I could ask you the same thing. Oi! Why are you taking my books?"
"George and I are plotting a new prank. And I'm just packing your books in my bag because it's easier then carrying them around against your chest." he flipped a book around in his hands, and raised an eyebrow at her as he continued, "by the looks of these books, it seems like you are out here feeding the nightly creatures."
Lea wrapped her arms around herself as a soft tremor speed though her body.
"What are you going to do about it, tell a teacher?"
She smirked at him, and he cocked his eyebrow again.
"Where's your robe or cloak... Or anything that keeps you warm?"
"Lost it somewhere in the castle, I was in a hurry."
"Aren't you cold?"
Yes, but..." her smirk grew more mischievous as she stepped back from Fred, "but I think I have the perfect solution for keeping warm."
"Oh? Really?" her replied with a huge grin and a small step towards her.
Within seconds a snowball flew from Leas hands and whacked Fred in the chest. She proceeded to sprint off, followed closely by the redhead trying to pummel her with snowballs. Laughter filled the silent forest, as the friendly battle continued.
For the first time in months Leas mind was clear, peaceful and happy. She felt like she could take on anything and win, even Lord Voldemort.
